Identity Theft and Cybercrimes

For Cyber Security Awareness Month and National Disability Employment Awareness Month, Eva Velasquez, CEO of the Identity Theft Resource Center (ITRC) will present virtually on identity crimes and what you can do to help yourself, your family and your workplace. Eva will discuss the different types of identity theft and related crimes, common methods used by scammers and bad actors, including different types of scams, what they look like, and of course, how you can minimize your risk. Eva will also provide an overview of victim remediation tools and recovery steps. Q&A at the end.

Speaker Bios

John Hammond
Senior Cybersecurity Researcher
Huntress

John is a cybersecurity researcher, red teamer, and Capture the Flag enthusiast. As a member of the Threat Operations team at Huntress, John spends his days reverse engineering malware and making hackers earn their access. Previously, as a Department of Defense Cyber Training Academy instructor, he taught the Cyber Threat Emulation course, educating both civilian and military members on offensive Python, PowerShell, other scripting languages and the adversarial mindset. He is an online YouTube personality showcasing programming tutorials, CTF video walkthroughs and other cyber security content.

Eva Velasquez

Identity Theft Resources Center (ITRC)

Eva Velasquez is the President/CEO at the Identity Theft Resource Center. She is a recognized expert and has been featured on such outlets as the CNBC, Forbes, Bloomberg, and more. Eva is a published author and Eva is a recipient of the National Crime Victim Service Award from the Department of Justice and OVC, the National Consumer League’s Florence Kelley Consumer Leadership Award.

Sometimes called the “Director of Excitement” at BHIS, he is formally known as the Content and Community Director. The Content and Community Team is constantly creating content to build and foster the BHIS community. Jason loves that he gets to share as much of his knowledge as possible and gets to give lots of stuff away. Jason enjoys helping others and loves the people who do it alongside him. In his free time, Jason enjoys hosting a job-hunting live stream twice a week on Twitch, spending time with his wife and daughter, writing short stories, and doing stand-up comedy.
